Maxcel^® VB5 (D-Panthenol) is a colorless or slight yellowish, clear, viscous and hygroscopic liquid. It is freely soluble in water, ethanol, methanol and propylene glycol, soluble in chloroform and ether, slightly soluble in glycerin and insoluble in oils and fats.

Maxcel^® VB5 is the provitamin of D-Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5), which plays a key role in the human intermediary metabolism. It is used as a nutrient supplement in food industry, and also as an analog of Vitamin B in pharmaceutical industry, sometimes mixed with allantoin, in concentrations of up to 2~5%, used for treatment of sunburns, mild burns and minor skin disorders. In cosmetics and personal care products, Maxcel^® VB5 is a humectant, emollient and moisturizer. When applied to the hair, Maxcel^® VB5 helps to improve hair shaft and give it a shine and gloss, so it is a common component of shampoos and hair conditioners (0.5%~2.5%).
